A healthy lifestyle is generally defined by how physically healthy you are, correct? For example, if you are sick or have a cold, you are considered
not healthy. If you have a life altering disease such as cancer or H.I.V., you are not healthy. But does that mean that it is entirely physical?
Absolutely not! Your well being is also determined by your mental health. Ponder this, the kind of music you listen to generally affects your mood. Look
at this perfect example: I I used to listen to Hard Rock and was extremely wild, a trouble maker, full of energy, and fun! Today I am more mature, I listen
to lighter music and I am more calm, laid back, carefree, and less energetic.
Now focus on music and setting the mood. Again, talking about the heavy rock, how does that make you feel when you listen to it? I know based on experience
that heavy music gets my adrenaline rushing, my heart pounding, my head pulsing. It kicks me into overdrive! How does t make you feel when you listen to
music? Let me take you to the opposite side of the spectrum and use classical music as an example. While listening to a song written by Beethoven, what is
your mood? I am generally feeling very classy, smart, makes me feel like expanding my knowledge, opening a book, enriching my life. It puts me in a totally
different mindset. What does it do for your mindset?
So how does this make you live healthier? The correct kind of music can help your mood and personality improve, creating a positive and happy outlook on
life. It is truth that a happier person lives longer and is in better health than someone who is always concerned about something, miserable, and
discontent. The human body was not made to handle stress all the time. That is where disease comes from. Think of the word, “dis” “ease”. That means
there is not ease in the human body, mental stress can be the cause of this. Music could be the cure.
Music can be a great enjoyment for all involved. How great do you feel when you hear your favorite song come on the iPod or radio? How do you feel when you
hear a song you do not like? Completely opposite right?
Let us discuss movies. What about scary movies, what kind of music do they play? Some play really scary high pitched, fast paced creepy soundtracks, others
have gotten smart and play NOTHING musically. This is smart because mentally, without music your mind wonders and it allows them to put more suspense behind
the movie. Do you recall the Blair Witch Project? It was a very low budget film, and done with no soundtrack. Somehow it still had the capability of being
one of the most popular and watched suspense movies of its time.
What about your movies that make you feel good? Next time you get a chance, watch Disney’s Enchanted? It is a musical all in its own that has light, soft,
dance in the street, kiss your neighbor, sweet music. It could make me feel extremely loving and uncharacteristically in the mood to sing in the streets.
Disney knew what they were doing with this. As with most Disney movies the soundtrack is crucial. It puts the movie watches in a positive mind frame and
gives them something to look forward to.
What about action movies, what type of soundtrack do they have? I would say techno, heavy, fast paced rock music? Think about one of the best action movies
ever – The Matrix. The theme song is a fast paced bass guitar riff. It puts you in the mind frame to do some damage! Not necessarily a positive attitude,
but still, makes me content for the time being.
So, how do you tie this all in to being healthy? Discover what makes you happy and focus your attention on that sort of music. Do not attempt to trick
yourself; you know what it is that makes you feel good. Enjoy the knowledge that you now posess on living just a little bit healthier with music and share
this with your friends.
If you can relate to this article, you should think about indulging in music a little more.
