Will Music Play a Big Roll in Healthy Living?

Healthy living is most commonly defined by how physically healthy you are, right? For example, if you have a cold or are sick, you are not healthy. If you have a life changing disease such as cancer or aids, you are unhealthy. But does that mean that it is completely physical? No Way! Health is also determined by your mental state. Ponder this, the kind of music you listen to generally affects your personality type. Here is a great example: I I used to listen to Hard Rock and was very crazy, mischievous, energetic, and lots of fun! Now that I have matured in age, I listen to lighter music and I am more calm, laid back, carefree, and less energetic.
Now focus on music and creating your mood. Again, going back to the heavy rock, how does that make you feel when you hear it? I can tell you based on experience that heavy music gets my blood rushing, my foot pounding, my pulse pulsing. It kicks me into overdrive! Now, how do you feel when you listen to light music? Let us go to the opposite side of the spectrum and use classical music as an scenario. If you are listening to a song written by Beethoven, how do you feel? I usually feel very classy, smart, makes me feel like learning, reading a novel, become a better person. It puts me in a totally different frame of mind. How does it make you feel?
Why would this make you live a healthier life? The right kind of music could help your mood and attitude get better, creating a positive and happy outlook on life. It is a proven fact that a happier person lives longer and is healthier than someone who is always concerned about something, upset, and discontent. The human body was not designed to handle stress all the time. This is where disease comes from. Look at the word, “dis” “ease”. This means there is not ease in the human body, stress can be the cause of this. Music can be the fix.
Music can be a great enjoyment for all involved. How wonderful do you feel when you listen to your favorite song come on the iPod or radio? How do you feel when you hear a song you do not enjoy? Completely opposite right?
Let us discuss movies. What about horror movies, what kind of music do they play? Some play really creepy high pitched, fast paced creepy soundtracks, others have gotten smart and play NOTHING musically. This is genius because mentally, without music your mind wonders and it allows them to put more suspense behind the movie. Do you recall the movie The Blair Witch Project? It was a very low budget flick, and done with little to no soundtrack. Somehow it still had the capability of being one of the most watched and popular suspense movies of its time.
What about those feel good movies? Next time you get a chance, watch Disney’s Enchanted? It is a musical all in its own that has light, fluffy, jump in the street, hug your neighbor, sweet music. It could make you feel very caring and uncharacteristically in the mood to hug a chipmunk. Disney knew what they were doing with this. As with most Disney movies the music is key. It puts the movie watches in a positive mind frame and gives them something to look forward to.
What about action movies, what type of music do they focus on? I would say fast paced rock, techno, heavy music? Look at one of the all time best action movies – The Matrix. The theme song is a fast paced bass guitar riff. It puts me in the mind frame to kick some butt! Not necessarily a positive attitude, but still, makes me happy for the time being.
What does all this music stuff have to do with living longer and healthier? Find out what makes you happy and concentrate your efforts on that sort of music. Do not attempt to trick yourself; you know what it is that makes you feel the best. Enjoy the knowledge that you now posess on living just a little bit healthier with music and share this with your friends.
