The fact that everyone can easily enhance the ability to make other people laugh is nearly unreal, but undoubtedly true. I shall first introduce why some things are funny, the way neurologists explain it. Often we hear something we didn't know of, at those times, the mind connects the neural cells by creating a new route between the two neural cells.

That route what we call a synapse and it works like this:
If we, let’s say think about food, and we remember avocados are food, then the brain creates a bridge (synapse, that gets tougher & thicker) between the brain cells that store the facts we have on food and the ones with that fruit. This will most likely result in you thinking about apples every time food pops up in your mind. If you're thinking this has nothing to do with humor, you are wrong. This is the way humor works.

It all starts with someone telling you a short, common story. This is what stand-up comedians call a setup Now, you're supposed to think about this story in a certain way. And so, our brain will now make a path which will go from the setup to it's suitable punch-line. The person who told you the story will most likely not tell you the same punch-line, but a totally different one, which will lead to you laughing about it. In case you have not understood this, it's ok just read the following example.

The Setup:
What is the most satisfying thing next to being shot at and missed?
The Punch-line:
An income tax refund.

What punch-line did you have in mind? Surely, you would've said it was either a Bosnian, Serbian or Croatian in the driver's seat. It's really natural to think that way, and our brain is to blame. Note that, as I said the punch-line was indeed different as I said it would be. This is of big importance as it's the main principle of the way humor works.

The main thing is good setup. A good comedian needs a good setup which delivers only the basic facts (so that there are many possible ways of thinking), so that the audience would have to think hard and be convinced that their way of thinking is the right one. The more you think your punch-line is the most fitting one, the more will the actually punch-line make you laugh. But if you're already familiar with the punch-line the joke won't be funny anymore as the brain won't be making any new routes.

This article should be useful if you want to create some new jokes. When a man tells something that all the people thinks about in similar way, but you find out a different way to understand it. Now, if you tell this to others, it should be really funny.
