Option 1 – Open to all individuals with no formal training or qualification but must have an interest in human movement and anatomy.
Option 2 – Approved Prior Learning Route (APL) route. This option is open to individuals who can demonstrate that they have undertaken formal training in the areas of anatomy and physiology, exercise science, gym instruction, personal training and group exercise. Suitable candidates for this option include qualified fitness instructors and personal trainers.
What can I do with this qualification ?
On successful completion of this course candidates will receive the National Qualification in Pilates Matwork Level 1 and will be qualified to deliver Pilates Mat based classes to the general public.
Programme Overview
The National Qualification in Pilates Matwork Level 1 is designed to enable learners to achieve the appropriate knowledge and skills necessary to teach Pilates movements at beginner level. Pilates can be taught on a one-to-one basis or in a group exercise session and this course is recommended for those individuals who wish to invest in a new rewarding career or for health fitness instructors and Personal Trainers who wish to enhance their earnings.
The National Qualification in Pilates Matwork Level 1 covers all relevant areas including:
• History and Principles of Pilates • Anatomy and Physiology • Functional Anatomy of the core. • Components of Health Related Fitness Training Principles • Movement essence and exercise goals • Muscular Initiation and sequencing • Pilates movements with modifications and progressions (16) • Postural analysis and assessment • Visual and effective teaching skills • Class design and movement selection. • Communication and verbal cueing • Warm ups and class planning. • Teaching Practice • Health and Safety • Role of the Pilates Instructor
Assessment Criteria:
1. Theory Examination (Anatomy, Physiology and Pilates specific).
2. Submission of Portfolio with documented hours of self directed learning and class plans.
3. Plan, Instruct and Evaluate a Pilates matwork class.
National Qualification in Pilates Matwork Advanced (Original Repertoire)
What can I do with this qualification ?
Graduates of the National Qualification in Pilates Matwork Advanced can introduce more advanced programmes for their pilates clients.
Successful completion allows graduates to obtain professional indemnity insurance cover to faciliate the delivery of this type of exercise.
Programme Overview
This programme is designed to introduce the learner to the original Pilates Matwork repertoire of 34 movements along with extra and numerous modifications. The goal is to create a larger body of work to enable Instructors to progress their clients from the modified repertoire taught in Level 1, towards the more challenging and original repertoire.
This course provides the essential knowledge and skills you need to design and instruct effective and motivating group and personal training programmes with the integration of small equipment to add variety and to meet specific needs of your clients.
Entry Requirements
National Qualification in Pilates Matwork Level 1 or equivalent. Evidence of equivalent Pilates training and qualifications must be approved by the Educational Committee prior to enrollment.
Synoptic Syllabus
* Advanced Anatomy and Physiology * Range of Motion and Muscle testing * Full repertoire of the 34 original Matwork Movements * Movement modifications and progressions * Client Appraisal and Motivational Interviewing * Programme prescription and progressive planning for groups and individuals * Postural analysis * Effective Communication and cueing skills. * Personal Training on a 1-2-1 basis and small groups. * Introduction of small equipment
Assessment Criteria
1. Submission of Case Study Paper. Learners will be required to submit a detailed case study paper to include a progressive Pilates programme for 5 clients or group classes.
2. Technical Assessment. Learners will be required to complete a practical assessment and will be assessed and given feedback on their technical ability on 15 movements from the original repertoire.
