Internet Advertising For Recruitment Agencies

Within the modern advertising market the internet is undoubtedly the most invaluable tool for a recruitment team. It’s merits can be illustrated easily in terms of cheapness (in some instances ten times cheaper than paper advertising) and the statistical popularity of job searching on the internet – the world wide web’s existence in our lives is so pervasive that nearly everyone has broadband whether at work or at home. Browsing on the internet for a job couldn’t be simpler.
The specifications of the job you hope to have can be searched for easily within your own home, at your own leisure. The job section in newspapers is rendered obsolete when the last few weeks relevant jobs are at your fingertips in a matter of minutes – many websites now have an email option that sends suitable job openings straight to your mailbox.
The sheer extent of this change towards interactive job searching is only slowly becoming apparent, and the recruitment agencies that persist in spending money on less effective paper advertising, which could be far more usefully put towards internet marketing, will find themselves missing out. The reliance on a tried-and-tested method of newspapers and magazines stems from a continuing belief that this is the best medium, despite the changing times.
The rules of how one goes about advertising jobs are altering just as rapidly – the quick and easy access nature of internet job-browsing results in a vast array of very similar jobs appearing before a prospective employee. In order to accommodate this modern style of advertising, recruiters have to make their position all the more prominent.
This is a difficulty in itself – job specifications are commonly very similar, and as such writing an advert that sells the job to the potential candidate is hard work. One can see a demonstration of this with the Recruitment Consultant position below:
Recruitment Consultant
A graduate with at least two years of recruitment experience would be ideal for this job. You are required to have ABC experience, the necessary qualifications, and must be able to accomplish the following targets.
The language is perfunctory and demanding, stating what is necessary for the job whilst never attempting to appeal to the potential employee in question. Its title does little to differentiate this job from the many other Recruitment Consultant roles. It is notable on such websites when the job description actually manages to be engaging, as below.
Recruitment as you’ve never seen it before!
An independent work environment with great potential for promotion and bonus structure, as well as benefits such as free membership at the local health club. Does this sound like work that appeals to you?
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level.
This advert will immediately garner more attention on the vacancy page than all of the others. It’s application rate will also be notably higher – but what is the reason behind the more positive attitude to such an advert?
1) Job Title The title is one of the first things the candidate will see, and so ‘recruitment consultant’ is rarely going to incite genuine interest if it is surrounded by identically titled jobs. Dependant on company style, it is important that the more enthusiasm you can create for the job, the more applicants you will receive. It is essential that the job description fits in with the ethos of your business.
2) Job Content When a job demonstrates immediately that it will provide great benefits it encourages a lot more applications than those adverts which simply state what the workplace requires of a candidate. Naturally the necessary qualifications need to be included within the advert, but they should be placed after the package deals which will create immediate appeal for the role. When promoting a particular job proves even more difficult it is a sensible idea to find out from the client what this job has beneficially that another might not.
Taking heed of these two areas requires a small amount of effort that could have big results in your applicant responses.
Good luck.
